Flying, Landing, Repeat, Sleep (We Made It!)

Buenos Noches de Quito, Ecuador!

Thank you so much for your prayers and thoughts as we began our trip. I am happy to report that the whole traveling group is safely in their dorms for the evening and getting ready for bed (if not already. Our plane from Atlanta to Quito arrived around 11pm 'Quito time' and was followed by a 50 minute bus ride to Alliance Academy International where we will stay for the next 10 days. (For all you Eastern Time Zone people, we are one hour behind you).

The view as some guys left from Philly to Atlanta, God's handiwork on display!

The team all met up in Atlanta around 4pm to catch up and have a meal before we boarded our flight to Quito at 6pm.

Tonight's sunset over the Caribbean was absolutely incredible... at 37,000 feet up (and -45 degrees!)

Approaching the landing in Quito around 10:50pm

One of the wallpaper designs in the dorm we are staying in at the Alliance Academy International. Unfortunately no current player can relate to any of these, though some may try...

Since it is nearly 2am here in Quito, this post mostly consists of pictures of updates of the flights and our arrival. Nonetheless, God has provided an amazing living situation here as a team, and we are anxiously awaiting tomorrow to begin our journey of stewardship and bonding as a team and with our Brothers and Sisters in Christ from Pan de Vida ("Bread of Life," the organization through which we are staying and doing work).

Lastly, Coach Dreves emailed out a passage from Ephesians which has been the teams preparatory call to action for this trip which I believe has really taken heart already with guys on the team...

"As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called;one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all."
     -Ephesians 4:1-6

Stay tuned for tomorrows post, as tomorrow is our first day of training and exploring the city in the daylight. Pray for softened receptive hearts and minds towards the new environment, and physical strength and health for the days ahead. We are currently 9300 feet above sea level, or thereabouts, so the elevation poses a unique opportunity!

As one member of our group put it, "we are an extension of something much greater than ourselves."
